Jose Raul Capablanca
José Raúl Capablanca was the third World Champion, reigning from 1921 until 1927.Capablanca was born in 1888 in Havana. Capablanca was a child prodigy with an amazing natural talent for the game. He became famous after beating the Cuban champion Juan Corzo in a match on 17 November 1901, two days before his 13th birthday. In 1909 he won a match against Frank Marshall and the victory earned him an invitation to the 1911 San Sebastian tournament, which he won ahead of players such as Akiba Rubinstein, Aron Nimzowitsch and Siegbert Tarrasch.
In Havana in 1921 the match Between Lasker and Capablanca went ahead but it was a disappointment to Lasker fans. Thirty games had been planned; the match lasted for only fourteen after which Lasker was losing by four games to none with ten draws. Lasker resigned the match on grounds of ill health. Capablanca was crowned the new World Champion.
