From Gary Koshnitsky to Mato Jelic
Gary was born in Russia in 1907, Gregor ‘Garry’ Koshnitsky
emigrated to Australia in 1926. Already a skilled chess player, Koshnitsky won
state titles in Queensland before moving to New South Wales where he remained
until 1961, when he and second wife Evelyn relocated to Adelaide. He won the
national chess championship in 1933 and 1939.
Gary Koshnitsky was writing Saturday’s advertiser chess column for many years and
then he handed it over to IM Alex Davidovic.
Alex took it over in 1993 and he informed and entertained South Australian chess lovers
until May 2021.
Mato Jelic will be writing the column starting on 29th of May 2021.
